Irish Chain quilts are known to have been made in Lancaster since the early 1800's. While this quilt doesn't look old fashioned, the quilting pattern and the border treatment are similar to Irish Chain Quilts made in Lancaster in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. Note the richness of the printed fabrics, and the care taken in the quilting and piecework.
The back of the quilt is covered with soft cream white cotton muslin. The quilting density is good, averaging about 100 linear inches of stitching per square foot. The stitching is very good with about 8 stitches per inch. A high quality quilt.
